- description:
This project emerged in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which profoundly disrupted traditional educational environments. Quarantine measures, social distancing policies, online learning, and the rise of so-called “virtual classrooms” (teleclases) exposed the fragility of education systems that rely heavily on physical presence and face-to-face interaction. The pandemic revealed not only logistical challenges but also deeper questions about the very nature of learning: What happens to education when the classroom disappears? How do we sustain a sense of community when physical proximity is no longer possible?

Learning is a Collective Practice was created in collaboration with 10 secondary school teachers and their students as a space for reflection—a platform where participants could critically examine the role of education beyond the confines of the traditional classroom.

Throughout the project, the installation was transformed through the interventions of the teachers and their students, evolving into a living, dynamic environment. Each contribution became a visible trace of their thoughts, experiences, and dialogues about the importance of education as a collective practice.

At its core, the piece challenges the notion of education as an isolated, individual process. Instead, it reaffirms the classroom—not just as a physical space, but as a dynamic, relational environment where learning happens through interaction, collaboration, and shared experience. In a time when distance became the norm, this project underscores the political and emotional necessity of being together, even when apart.
